Heirloom Cacao Preservation
The Heirloom Cacao Preservation Fund (HCP) is a non-profit initiative of the Fine Chocolate Industry Association that identifies, designates, and works to preserve genetically rare and flavourfully exceptional cacao varieties.

Designation requires both a flavour evaluation by expert tasters and a genetic analysis confirming the variety's lineage and rarity. HCP-designated cacao represents varieties genuinely at risk of being lost to commercial monoculture. As of 2024, fewer than twenty distinct populations hold the designation worldwide.
